  • 1 cup milk (for beef mixture)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian herbs
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Dash of cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup milk (for gravy)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, crumbled saltine crackers, 1 cup of milk, Italian herbs, onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and pepper. Mix until well blended.
  3. Form the mixture into eight patties about ½ inch thick. Lightly coat each patty in flour, shaking off any excess.
  4. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat with a bit of oil. Brown each steak for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden crust forms.
  5. Arrange the browned steaks in the prepared baking dish.
  6. In another bowl, whisk together condensed cream of mushroom soup and remaining cup of milk until smooth. Pour the gravy over the steaks evenly.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes; then remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until bubbly and cooked through.
  8. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving warm.
